  • Job Summary

    Reporting to the Medical Director and the Medical Coordinator, the LPN provides comprehensive nursing services to patient populations within Park Integrative Health (PIH). PIH is a private health and wellness clinic that specializes in providing integrative, comprehensive, collaborative healthcare to individuals in the greater Strathcona County and Edmonton area.

    Responsibilities
    • Client Care & Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Management
    • Documents all phases of client care in Healthquest EMR system, maintaining accurate and timely records
    • Works in conjunction with the physicians and/or independently as appropriate to assess the needs of patients; supports delivery of high quality, evidence-based health care to the practice population
    • Situates patients to consulting rooms, collects and enters patient vitals in EMR, and provides health services based on developed nursing knowledge and skills.
    • Works collaboratively to full scope of practice as a member of a healthcare team within a family practice environment to enhance the delivery of primary care services to patients.
    • According to practice protocols, conducts assessments, initiates and implements management strategies and provides appropriate evaluation, follow-up and modifications to care plans.
    • Assists in the implementation of strategies for improving the quality and provision of care for the practice population according to care and role algorithms
    • Assists in the delivery of disease management and health promotion and provides appropriate care and treatment, according to practice policy and protocols.
    • Provides care and coordinates services with other team members and community resources, appropriate to the situation, and in accordance with Park Integrative Health policies, procedures and established standards.
    • Communicates with Health Link, hospitals, and referring member physician clinics regarding referral appropriateness and clinic capacity.
    • Enters statistical data for collection of key performance measures for organizational and provincial reporting.
    • Ensures clinic is stocked with medication and general medical supplies; maintains sterilization protocols, equipment standards, and supply levels of clinic exam rooms.
    • Responsible for own self-directed professional development; participates in education programs, multidisciplinary and nursing meetings
    Qualifications
    • Post-secondary diploma/certificate as Medical Office Assistant
    • Minimum 3 years experience in a medical position
    • Minimum 3 years experience in clerical position
    • Strong command of medical terminology
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills
    • The ideal candidate is a Licensed Practical Nurse with a proven track record in working with a primary care team to treat and manage patients with health problems efficiently and effectively.
    • Education: A graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing program. Current CLPNA Registration in good standing is required, including injection, medication administration and immunization certification.
    • Phlebotomy experience considered an asset.
    • Functional knowledge: Demonstrated clinical skills in primary care nursing or a hospital environment. Knowledge of medical equipment and supplies usage according to established standards and procedures. Strong interest in advancing patient-oriented health services via new service delivery models; willing to play a leadership role in helping to define these new models.
    • Experience: Minimum of two years’ experience in broad clinical practice required. Clinical experience in a primary care setting desirable. Experience working in high volume physician-led clinic environment is preferred. Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems required. Previous experience in handling confidential or sensitive information; knowledge of applicable data privacy laws. Evidence of continued and self-directed professional development.

Excellent organizational skills and proven ability to work under pressure in a dynamic environment. Meticulous attention to detail and records maintenance skills. Excellent problem-solving skills and follow-through, with ability to make intuitive decisions. Must be flexible and adaptable towards change. Self-directed in the management of nursing responsibilities. Promotes a safe and healthy practice environment, recognizes safety issues and reports appropriately; participates in correction and prevention action plans.
    • Communications and customer relations skills: Strong communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills; resilient, able to handle requests and complaints in a professional, non-confrontational manner. Superior telephone manners. Demonstrated strength in developing collaborative, effective working relationships with clients of cultural and socioeconomic diversity. Ability to work independently and effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Shares information and responsibility; is not territorial.
    • Background check: A clear Criminal Background check, inclusive of a vulnerable sector search, is required to start (must be valid within 90 days).
    • Additional Requirements: Current Health Care Provider (HCP) CPR is required.
