What is mental health?
At Park Integrative Health, we understand that mental health impacts quality of life and wellness. We understand that true mental health is a state of well-being in which an individual can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and make a contribution to their community.
Mental health support is about a collaborative relationship between client and therapist that supports a client in becoming aware of, and transforming limiting thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and beliefs. Working with a Registered Psychologist or mental health expert at PIH can help you facilitate self-knowledge, emotional acceptance and growth, and support you in optimizing the development of your own personal resources. Our Mental Health Team use a variety of counselling approaches rooted in theory and applied in response to clients’ individual needs, values, and comfort.
Our team of mental health professionals are culturally competent and spiritually sensitive. We are an ally to minority groups, including LGBTQ individuals, couples, and families. We provide counselling to adults, youths, children, family and LGBTQ demographics. We also provide service delivery to individuals, couples, family and groups. We recognize and appreciate the unique needs of our client population. PIH’s mental health professionals provide services from an integrative framework. They are humanistic in their approach, have an appreciation for the existential, and practice from a Trauma-Informed Perspective. Therapeutic approaches include: Solution-Focused Therapy; Motivational Interviewing; Attachment-Based Therapy; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); Dialectic Behaviour Therapy (DBT); Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR); Gottman Method; Art Therapy; Play Therapy; and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy
When should I visit a mental health professional?
Seeing a Registered Psychologist or Clinical Social Worker at PIH is beneficial for anyone looking to resolve specific problems, make decisions, cope with crisis, develop personal insight and knowledge, work through feelings of inner conflict and/or improve relationships with others. Our mental health services are designed to assist individuals experiencing mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, stress, loss, substance use and more.
Counselling is most effective if you have the genuine desire to explore and heal your internal limitations, and curiosity to experiment with a more expansive, open, authentic, and empowered version of yourself. What should I expect from a mental health appointment?
When you meet with a member of our Mental Health Team, expect that they will accept you as you are and hold your best interests at heart. Each session may look a little different depending on where you’re at in your healing journey, but every session is a step toward meeting the needs and reaching the goals jointly created between you and your psychologist or social worker.
